What is Metformin?
Metformin is a pill that helps control the blood sugar of Type 2 diabetic.
Type 2 diabetics produce some amount insulin in their body, they just fail to utilize it in an effective manner.
Metformin just helps the body to get more sensitive to the insulin already produced by the pancreas. Its important point to note that Metformin doesn’t produce insulin by themselves, they just make our naturally produced insulin more effective.
How can metformin reduce our blood sugar?
1. It improves insulin sensitivity
2. Lowers the amount of sugar created by liver
3. Decrease the absorption rate of sugar in blood

No, they can’t.

What are the complications of having this medicine?
Like any other medicines, this one also has some complication.
While most of them are not so serious but there are few which can prove deadly.
So let us understand different complications and how it affects the human body:
1. Stomach Upset
This is the most common problems among the patients on metformin.
If you are someone who is newly diagnosed and is starting with this drug, keep in mind that you may face issues like diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, and gas.
Is there any way to avoid it?
In order to avoid this problem, it’s better to start this medicine with low dosage and then ramp up slowly with time.
As far as I have read, it’s better to start with 500 mg dose and then slowly increase to 850mg and then to 1000 mg. This method may save you lot of trouble and buy you a lot of time for your body to adjust to this drug.
But before you make any adjustments, make sure to discuss with your doctor.

Metformin can have an adverse effect on your body if you having other problems apart from diabetes. I have listed some of the problems below, if you have any of these, make sure to draw your doctor’s attention before getting dependent on metformin
1. Kidney Issues
Kidney helps to remove metformin from your body.
If you have kidney issues, there are chances that the drug may not get removed and you get into the state of Lactic Acidosis.
So if you had any kidney problems in the past, tell your doctor about it; He may reduce the dose or may find alternative medicine for you to control your blood sugar.

If you have heart problems, metformin can create issues.
A weak heart may not pump enough blood to your kidneys, this may prevent kidneys to remove metformin from your body; hence raising risk of Lactic Acidosis

Your liver is the one which removes Lactic Acid from the body. Inefficient liver may result up Lactic acid and eventually, you may get in the state of Lactic Acidosis condition
