Low Carb Fruits || Must Read for Diabetic
In this article, we will try to list the low carb fruits which can be easily eaten by diabetic patients and by the person who is following a low carbohydrate diet.
Fruits naturally contain carbohydrate.
The carbohydrates present in them may be in the simple form or in the form of fructose.
Normally all the fruits contain fructose which is different from carbohydrates in the way that fructose gets metabolized in the liver, in a way creating pressure in the liver.
Many people have the misconception that fruits are healthy and can be eaten in large amounts.
This is a completely false argument.
Fruits are healthy to eat as long as they are eaten in a small portion.
Heavy eating of fruits means that you are dumping a lot of fructose within the body which if unutilized gets deposited in the form of fats and make you obese.
So you have to be careful while eating fruits.
And make sure to avoid juice as it contains a lot of fructose and also takes away important fiber from the fruit body.
My purpose to come up with this article is to make you aware of low carb fruits which are low in carbohydrate content and can be eaten in comparatively large amounts than the other fruit option available.
The low carb fruits are also a good alternative for diabetic patients as they don’t spike the blood sugar and can be eaten without any worries.
So below is the list of fruits which are low in carbohydrates:
1. Watermelons (Tarbooj in India)
This is my favorite fruits.
They are low in carbohydrates ( 7 grams per 100 grams ) and are also packed with essential vitamins.
They contain nutrients like Vitamin A, B6 and C, along with essential anti-oxidants like lycopene and choline.
Also, eating watermelon in summers is satisfying as they contain a good amount of water and it helps you keep hydrated
The families of berries are good source of nutrients and are also low in carbohydrates.
Some of the important low carb berries are:
b. BlackBerries (also known as Jamun in India)
These berries are easily available in India and also at affordable price.
So don’t miss out on this one.
3. Muskmelons (Kharbooja in India)
This is one of the popular summer fruit in India.
They contain around 9 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams.
They are the excellent source of Vitamin A, along with other vitamins like vitamin b, c and other important nutrients like potassium etc.
Its high water content also helps you keep hydrated during the summer season.
This fruit along with its low carbohydrate content, is a great source of essential unsaturated fat.
Unsaturated fat is extremely important for various body functions.

The problem with avocados is that it is not easily available in India.
It is only found in big Indian Cities and the cost is also high.
Contains around 10 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams
6. Plum (Aloo Bukhara in India)
Another fruit which can be easily found in India.
But some of the people may not like it (like myself) as it has a sour taste.
Contains around 12 grams of carbohydrates per 100 grams
All these fruits are helpful for the diabetic patient as they don’t spike the blood sugar.
But keep in mind that these fruits are not carbohydrates free, so if you are eating it, be mindful of the blood sugar and take insulin accordingly.
