Finding the lost path-Misty Guillory-My diabetes story
Hi, I am Misty and would like to share my diabetes story here.
I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2001.
At first, I did a great job of changing my lifestyle and I lost 60 pounds.
Getting Rebellious
After a couple years, I became resentful and decided I no longer wanted to be a diabetic….as if I had an option. Each time I went to the doctor or ER they were alarmed I was not being treated. Well, about a month ago I started having pressure in my chest with light pain in my arm and then broke out in a cold sweat the 2nd night. That morning after taking my 4 yr old to the baby sitter I drove myself to the ER. Sure
Phase of complications
Well, about a month ago I started having pressure in my chest with light pain in my arm and then broke out in a cold sweat the 2nd night. That morning after taking my 4 yr old to the baby sitter I drove myself to the ER. Sure enough, I had more than one heart attack! I was told it was due to diabetes causing plaque to build up in my arteries. They put in a stent in my main artery and we’re unable to do anything about the others as they were too tiny to stent.
The Lesson…
I have totally changed my lifestyle and I’m now eating a mostly plant-based diet of whole, healthy foods, and low healthy fats. Denying your diabetes doesn’t make it go away. It only causes complications. I have shared my diabetes story so that people can learn from my experiences and manage their condition effectively to live healthy and normal life
